Do you know the seven essential parts of an inground pool? The ones that, if they weren’t there, would leave your tub water dirty and contaminated? If your answer is no and not accepting, don’t worry, we are here! In this article we will introduce you to them, to allow you to maintain and take good care of your pool.

THE SEVEN ESSENTIAL PARTS OF AN INGROUND POOL

Beyond all the accessories you will find around, each pool is made up of seven essential parts. Let’s see them together.

    1. SKIMMER

The filtration traditional skimmer is the most simple and economical to realize. The skimmers are positioned in the walls of the pool and their number varies according to the size of the pool. They are installed in the upper part of the walls, about 15/20 cm from the edge. Consequently, the water level should reach about half the height of their “mouth”.

The overflow skimmer, on the other hand, differs from the traditional one in shape and position, bringing with it important advantages. The wider shape than the traditional one allows it to be positioned at a shorter distance from the edge (7/10 cm maximum); in this way, the water can reach a higher level and the impurities on the surface will be captured more easily, for better filtration.

    2. MAIN EXHAUST

The main drain is usually located at the bottom of the pool. Although it can be used to drain the pool, it is rarely used this way. Normally, it performs the same function as skimmers. Its operation allows for better water circulation, as this is filtered from above by the skimmers and from below by the main drain. The newer inground pools have two main drains.

    3. SUCTION PIPES

Usually, the pipes intended for suction are made of PVC. Their task is to transport the tank water from the skimmer directly to the pump.

    4. FILTRATION PUMP

The filtration system allows regenerating of the water that passes through the filter material. The filtration pump,  essential for your pool, can be single-phase or three-phase, varying in size, material, and power.

Its job is to move as much water as possible for filtering through an impeller powered by a variable power motor. Obviously, the larger the pool, the more power the pump will need to move the greater volume of water. As water passes through the pump, the force exerted on it changes from pull to push, directing the water into the filter.

    5. FILTER

Another essential part of a swimming pool is the filter. This serves to remove the fine debris, the tiny particles, and, in some cases, even the bacteria that may have passed the action of disinfectants. Pool filters are usually divided into four varieties:

    Sand filter

These filters are the best known and most used. They work with silica sand, placed inside the filter body, able to filter optimally. Choosing this filter solution guarantees effectiveness, ease of cleaning, and a relatively low cost. On the other hand, the sand filter is rather bulky.

    Cartridge filter

Cartridge filters have a  folded filter paper placed inside a cylinder. Suitable for small pools, they are inexpensive, easy to replace, and require little space. Their disadvantage, however, is that they have a much slower filtration than the other types.

    Nanofiber filter

This is a variant of the cartridge filter, modern and ideal for inground pools. Some versions are self-cleaning but have quite high costs.

Diatomaceous earth filter for swimming pools

The diatom filter for swimming pools includes diatoms it?s also important when we start lifeguard courses, marine algae in the form of diatomaceous earth that are used in the filter system. This solution guarantees the best water quality, although it requires frequent maintenance.

    6. RETURN LINES

The return lines are the opposite of the suction pipes, although they are always made of PVC. Their function is to transport the pool water from the filter to the return jets.

    7. RETURN JETS

Here the filtered water of the pool passes and returns to the pool. The return jets, in addition to this function, push the water around the pool towards the skimmers and direct the floating debris towards their baskets.

These are therefore the seven essential parts of a swimming pool, essential to know to keep your pool always at the top of cleanliness!
