The cat is an animal whose domestication is relatively recent. The first traces of domestication have been found in China and date back to 5300 BC.

If the dog is considered a friend of man par excellence, an example of unparalleled fidelity and dedication, it is not right to accuse the cat of betrayal and selfishness and to affirm that the only forms of attachment it is capable of are addressed to the environment in which lives and to the person who hands him the food.

The cat, even if nature has not endowed it with an instinct that allows it to clearly manifest its affection and joy, nevertheless it is the repository of equally sincere feelings that it manifests in its own way only when it deems it right.

The cat retains its natural distrust and independence. In cats there is no hierarchical structure like in dogs, and therefore its relationship with humans is different: the human being is considered as a replacement mother who is useful for procuring food and guarantees protection.

In fact, the cat is an animal more linked to the territory than to the herd, unlike the dog. This does not mean that the cat cannot feel affection for people and can also be protective.

In most cases, the cat’s attitude towards the owner is affectionate and sweet, especially when raised as a child. The cat can also show its affection towards its owner by purring and stretching its paws. In such moments he remains with his eyes closed and the master, in a form of imprinting, represents for him the real mother.

Another way to recognize the human as a ?mother ” is to scratch the chest or other body part of the human companion with the front legs. This behavior is called ” making pasta ” (or ” making the baker “), as the legs move like the arms of a man when kneading flour, and it is a typical action of lactating kittens which in this way stimulate breast lactation. It is not always a behavior pleasing to humans, as it is performed with unlined nails, but it must still be considered performed on objects, for example clothing, belonging to the master or on the support base when he receives particularly welcome pampering.

Caresses should be done in moderation because cats’ fur is rich in nerve endings that are ultra-sensitive to manipulation. The meows addressed to the human companion are of different types: the long and plaintive one to signal a courtship, the short one characteristic of the greeting and finally the prolonged one for a request.

It should be noted that not all breeds behave in the same way. In fact, taking the domestic cat as a reference point, the Siamese is rather wild, while the Persian comes to assume attitudes which, in some ways, make it behave “almost like a dog”. Much depends on the treatment given to the animal and the environment in which it lives; his sensitivity, in fact, is such as to make him immediately feel a tense

Atmosphere or a latent nervousness, conditions to which the cat reacts by behaving strangely, both isolating himself and becoming almost aggressive.

The house cat is the house cat that many of us have as a life partner. It is not listed in any feline breed. The house cat is a strong, very intelligent cat and is known for its ability to handle it on its own in all situations. Everything is allowed to the house cat: there is no uniformity of size, neither bone structure nor morphology; there is no cat like the other neither in appearance nor in character.

As a life friend

It is from all points of view an excellent life partner: it is tender, affectionate, loves cuddles, but at the same time it is a very independent animal, with a strong character, and which in turn demands affection and respect from us. He eats what is offered and loves to take long walks outdoors, even if he manages to live very well in the apartment. The house cat is the ideal cat for the family. He is very playful, especially if his playmates are children. But he is also capable of listening to our silences, our chats, our ailments, and is always ready to console us. It does not require special care, it just needs our love.

When choosing a cat you must take into account some very specific reasons why you should give preference to this or that species, reasons based on various characteristics of the different breeds and which concern:

?         Type of cat: the long-haired cat, like the Persian, is not recommended for those who have little time to devote to the animal and also for those who live in very hot areas.

?         Temperament of the cat: the less sociable breeds (Siamese and Burma) are not suitable for families with small children or where there are spoiled dogs, jealousies and irremediable contrasts would arise.

It must also be considered that:

The more delicate breeds are unsuitable for living in very cold regions because they are severely affected by changes in temperature. Living in city apartments, on the other hand, does not bring any limitations in the choice. In fact, cats of any species can be kept there: generally they adapt much better than dogs to the small space, they do not need to go out to satisfy their physiological needs and they love to sit quietly in a corner, in the warmth.

To conclude two practical tips:

When you buy a kitten, or if you receive one as a gift, you must make sure that it has been vaccinated against distemper; if not, take action immediately because these animals are subject to contracting the dreaded disease; up to two years the cat almost always succumbs, while when it is adult it can survive even to rather serious attacks.

If you intend to have your kitten neutered or spayed, it is good to ask your vet about the best time for the surgery.
