We continue to publish recommendations on how to use your YouTube channel for didactic purposes. In the last article, we touched on the issue of streamlining your work on the channel. Now we’ll touch on the tasks of creating annotations, small polls, and other interactivity.
CREATING AND EDITING ANNOTATIONS
Annotations allow you to make your videos interactive and grab students’ attention. With annotations, you can easily add explanatory text, add links, and hotspots above the video. First of all, you must have your own YouTube channel so you can work in Creative Studio. You can only work with videos that are available on your channel. Or downloaded from your computer or from YouTube, but definitely saved by you.
- So, go to your account.
- Go to your creative studio.
- Start working with the Video Manager.
- Find the video you want to edit in the list of our collection and click Edit.
In the list that appears, find Information and Settings. A window will open below the video where we can enter an annotation to the video, a learning objective for the students, and links to more detailed information.
In the edit bar that appears, you can use the tooltip feature.
You can add links to other videos or entire channels. This information will appear in the upper right corner of the screen.

CREATING SMALL QUIZZES AND SURVEYS

First, you need to create a poll by asking a question and answer choices in the form. In the voting settings, you can choose the correct answer if it’s a quiz, show the result as a percentage, and more.
Once the poll is ready, it can be embedded into your streaming software, such as OBS or Xsplit. At the very bottom, you can find 3 links
- Link to vote (put it under the video)
- To results (this is the link we will put in the program)
- And a link to the survey settings.
In the program for streaming, we add a new element – a web page and point the link to the results to display them on the screen and show the audience in real time.
Go back to the page with the links of our poll, take the link to the vote and publish it in the description, under the video or throw it in the chat.
By clicking on the link, the viewer will be able to vote and see the change in the voting results directly on the stream.

On the create surveys page, you can add a number of surveys, and switch between them. AND THIS IS WHERE THE TRICK OF THE SERVICE COMES IN!
You don’t need to change the links, you can switch to another poll with one click, and the links you added will take you to a whole new poll!
