The best way to travel in India is not by airplane; to understand authentic Indianness, you must travel with the Indian Railway. The Indian Railway is distinct from other railways around the world. From tea-sellers coming in and selling hot lemon tea to everyone debating politics. The railway itself is a different dimension altogether. People on the railway are cooperative and open-hearted. Every station has its distinct feature that makes the train journey memorable for the traveler.

But before setting off for your destination, there might be a few things you need to know to make your travel more comfortable. India has the world’s largest rail network. So, generally, a range of trains are used by IRCTC. Each train is different from others in design, capacity, and services. Some of these trains are high speed, some of these running pre-independence.

  • Rajdhani Express: Rajdhani Express connects other Indian states with New Delhi. Rajdhani Express departed from Kolkata on 3rd March 1969 for the first time. It is premium in design and offers a variety of coaches according to everyone’s convenience. 24 Rajdhani Express are running the country presently.
  • Shatabdi Express: These are fast plying trains running across the major cities of India. It is not an overnight train; it conducts its journey during the daytime. Shatabdi Express only has a sitting arrangement. There are 25 pairs of Shatabdi express operating in the country.
  • Gatiman Express: It was India’s first semi- speed train. Gatiman Express runs from New Delhi to Jhansi. This train has an LHB coach; in case of an accident reduces the risk of life and property loss.
  • Vande Bharata Express: It isIndia’s first indigenous train. Our PM inaugurated this train in 2019. It runs between Varanasi – New Delhi and Katra – New Delhi in 8 hours. 
  • Duronto Express: It runs between New Delhi and the capitals of other metro cities. It is also known as one of the most punctual trains; it doesn’t stop before reaching the destination; it is one of India’s few non-stop trains.
  • Tejas Express: Tejas Express is India’s first private train; the facilities are substantial. It has enough facilities to keep the passenger entertained, such as an LCD screen with headphones, WI-FI, etc. This train has automatic doors for entry and exit.
  • Maharaja Express: It is a premium by train by IRCTC; it runs from Agra to Ajanta. Foreign tourists prefer this train because of its luxurious amenities. The coaches are premium; the staff is well trained. It will make you feel like royalty. Only 88 passengers can travel together. The minimum cost of the ticket is around 36000 RS.
  • Humsafar Express: It is fully air-conditioned and has around 16 passenger coach; it is a premium express train; every coach has GPS available to help them see where they are right now.
  • Samjhauta Express: It is a historical train that runs between India and Pakistan. It starts from Attari reaching Pakistan via Wagah Border; the journey ends at Lahore. The passenger of this train has gone through a detailed security check, as this is a cross-country train. The train is not on the tracks now, for some diplomatic reason.

There are other popular trains like Mountain Train, which runs on the mountain route, 3 of these mountain routes are UNESCO heritage sites. There are Metro Trains and Monorail. There is also Tram Rail which will operate in Kolkata.

WHAT IS THE PNR NUMBER

PNR Number is a ten-digit number that stands for the name record of the passenger. PNR is a unique number different for every booked ticket. PNR Number also helps us know whether the train ticket is confirmed or is on the waiting list.

WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION PNR NUMBER HOLD

There are various kinds of information your PNR number holds. Information like your name, age, preference of Berth, etc. PNR Number also holds ticket details, train number, the first station, last station, date of journey, Payment details and zonal codes, etc. The system randomly generates the last seven digits.

HOW TO CHECK THE PNR NUMBER

You can check your indian railways pnr Number through the mobile app. by sending SMS to 139 and after the generation of the final chart.

TYPES OF PNR STATUS:

  1. CNF: When your tickets are confirmed, your seat is assigned and it shows CNF.
  2. CAN: CAN stands for Cancellation.
  3. WL: It means that your tickets are on the waiting list; they will either confirm or get canceled. If the passenger who has booked the ticket before you cancel their tickets you will get their reservation but if not then your booking will not finalize and you will be given your money back
  4. RAC: The form of RAC is Reservation Against Cancellation; which means that your seat is booked but your berth is still on the waiting list, and the berth will be shared by two.
  5. GNWL: General Waiting List means that the probability of getting railway ticket booking is very high.
  6. PQWL: When a passenger travels from the first station to anywhere before the last station or starts from the intermediate station and ends the journey on the furthest station, in such a situation if the ticket is on the waiting list then IRCTC will issue Pooled Quota, Waiting List.
  7. RLWL: Remote Location Waiting List is issued when a person travels between the intermediate stations.
  8. TQWL: When you purchase your Tatkal quota, then Indian Railway issues Tatkal Quota, Waiting List.
  9. NOSB: When a child below the age of 11 travels, he’s given NOSB that stands for No Seat Berth.

PROBABILITY OF PNR CONFIRMATION

It stands the chance of getting your tickets booked. If you want to travel at the last moment and are unsure whether your tickets will book or not. Then you can see the probability given by the app or if your tickets will book or not. The app shows NOT AVAILABLE when no other seat is available.
