There is no doubt that life is full of ups and downs. We might be near to tasting victory, only for life to drag us down. But there is nothing wrong with it, and you know why? These are challenges through which Allah tests us. If we accept the challenge and strive to come out on top, we end up a better human being and closer to Allah. Allah expects us to observe ?tawakkal? in every challenge.

Unfortunately, many people criticise their fate whenever they find themselves in an untoward situation. A few take their lives. They do not realise that they are condemning themselves and their families to nothing but endless heartbreak. If you have a Quran teacher, ask them about tawakkal and what Allah says about it in the Holy Quran. Meanwhile, keep reading to know more about tawakkal in a time of worry.
What is Tawakkal?
Tawakkal is another way of saying that we must trust Allah’s plans or have faith in him. It is tawakkal that guides us through life?s various challenges. If we observe tawakkal in every situation, we will end up on top in this life and the world hereafter. We encourage you to take out your copy of the Quran right now. If not possible, search for an online Quran. Read the following Ayat:
?Who responds to the distressed when they cry to Him; relieving their affliction.? Al-Quran (27:62)
This verse may seem small, but its meaning is clear to everyone. Whenever we find ourselves in a distressing situation where there is no way out, we must submit to Allah. As the Ayat itself says, Allah will remove our pain. The only thing that we must do is submit to Allah. If we have sinned, we must ask for repentance. Allah is the Most Forgiving.
Quranic Verses About Tawakkal
Allah says in the Quran,
?And put your trust in Allah, and enough is Allah as disposer of affairs? AL- Quran (33:3)
What does this verse say? It asks us to put our trust in Allah. In other words, Allah Himself says that people should put all their trust in Allah even when things are not going their way. Instead of asking for help from friends or family, we must raise our hands in supplication. We must submit ourselves to Allah and ask Him to guide us through the situation. Indeed, it is Allah that alone can guide us through the challenges of this life.
Allah Tests Us Through Challenges
Many people ask their Islamic Quran teachers from Online Madrasa about life’s various challenges and tests. The common question is, why does Allah test us? The answer to this question can be found in the Quran:
?And we will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and loss of wealth and lives and fruits but give good tidings to the patient? AL- Quran (2:155)
The purpose of these challenges is to test our faith. If we remain steadfast and have tawakkal in Allah, we will be rewarded by Allah. There is no doubt that Allah will reward us with a lot more than what he has taken from us. In testing situations, one should recall the verse of Surah Touba:
?Do not grieve, indeed Allah is with us? AL-Quran (9:40)
If you think that the test is too tough for you, then you are wrong. It is Allah that has created us. He knows our limits and abilities. He says in the Quran,
?Allah does not require of any soul more than what it can afford? AL-Quran (2:286)
In other words, Allah does not burden a soul beyond its limits. Therefore, if you think that you cannot overcome the challenge, you are wrong. All Allah requires is for you to have tawakkal in Him. Allah will guide you through the rest of the way.
How to Have Tawakkal?
The best way to observe tawakkal is through prayer and repentance. Allah says,
?And seek help through patience and prayer? AL-Quran (2:45)
There is no doubt that prayer has the power to change our fate. If you need Allah?s help, all you need to do is ask for His help. Indeed, Allah answers those who seek His help.
I would like to end this article by mentioning a Quranic verse,
?Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you; Allah knows and you do not know? AL-Quran (2:216)
If you think that you have lost an opportunity that is the best for you, think again. It might be good for you, in your opinion, but Allah knows best. He loves His creation. Thus, He will never put His people in harm’s way. If He takes something away from you, know that it is not the right thing for you. But only if you have tawakkal would you realise it.
