Streamline Your Business Using Shift Tags

The business world is evolving at an exponential rate. Every day innovative methodologies and newer technologies are implemented to increase efficiency and productivity. There is an increase in the income and spending capabilities of consumers around the world. Supply chains are working continuously to meet the growing demand and to tap the international markets.?

In the last few decades, many companies are engaged in producing consumables which have high demand in foreign markets. This has given rise to fierce competition for attracting consumers and making the venture more profitable. However, not all businesses are run to full capacity. Some businesses are seasonal and some depend on the available orders. Thus production is not continuous round the years. Some days are low while some days are busy.?

During low patches, there is a need to schedule cuts. But it is difficult to do so without the help of a human resource management system?or a rostering system?especially if we are short of time to do labour cost analysis or there are too many workers on shift. Here shift tags?come in handy.?

Why Do We Need Schedule tags or Shift Tags?

As mentioned above, not all businesses have continuous production. This may be because of many reasons including, lack of orders or demand in the markets or because of seasonal needs of a particular product, irregular flow of raw material or scarcity of running capital. In such a circumstance, some of the shifts of the labour must be cut and a limited number of workers must be asked to attend the shift.

Scheduling a worker’s shift is a tedious job. It involves various factors like:

Experience:

Where there is a scarcity of orders, lesser workers are required to do that job. This happens during a slow day or week. It is important to choose the workers or employees who are experienced in that particular type of job. This increases the productivity of the company with fewer errors and reworking needed.

Cost:

This is an important parameter on which the shift scheduling of workers depends. One has to consider the labour cost and cost allowed for completing that particular task. We have to arrange the shift by calling a particular number of workers who are experienced and skilled along with labourers who are semi-skilled with less labour cost. A perfect combination must be worked and maximise production with minimum costs.

Availability:

Labours take leaves or are unavailable for certain days. We must consider this while scheduling their shift. Substitution must be ready in case there is an unannounced absence so that the production doesn’t hamper.

Along with the above-mentioned parameters, there are various indicators which are useful in workforce management?and determining which labour should we cut from a shift or which labour should be called for work.

How are Shift Tags Used:

These tags have multiple uses such as marking a role or work station or task to an employee. However, the most interesting use is for shift cuts.

Shift tags are assigned to an employee depending upon the above-mentioned parameter. We can tag it as Primary, Secondary, Tertiary etc. depending upon various indicators. For example, an employee is skilled in a particular task so he must be tagged as primary in that task and secondary in another task.  If a person (Mr. A ) is good at machining while average in assembly. He must be tagged as primary in machining while secondary or tertiary in assembly. Thus when there is a task involving the machining of components, Mr. A must be preferred while during the assembly task he must be considered after other skilled workers.
