JEE Main Cut off 2020: All You Need to Know

    JEE Main is one of the most crucial entrance examinations at the undergraduate level that is a deciding factor for a student?s career. The exam is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) that also releases the cut off soon after the exams are over. Students must note that there will be two types of cut-offs of JEE Main 2020 exam: Qualifying and Admission. The cut off will be released once the JEE Main April exam results are announced. The qualifying cut off will decide who qualifies to appear for JEE Advanced. Students have to score at least the cut off marks to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2020. However, admission cut off will be released separately that is the minimum rank you need to secure to have higher chances of getting admission to any institution that considers JEE as its admission criteria. The admission cut off will be released by Joint Seat Allocation Authority, also known as JoSAA.

    The cutoff rank for admission will be released after every round of counselling.  The cut off will vary as per different categories (General or reserved categories- SC, ST and OBC), institutions and courses. The concerned authorities will also consider various other factors including the availability of seats, previous year cut-offs, number of candidates appearing for the exam, difficulty level of exam, and number of candidates applying for a particular course, etc.

    Types of JEE Main 2020 Cut off

    JEE Main cut off is further divided into two types: qualifying cut off and admission cut off. While the qualifying cut off will be announced by NTA, the admission cut off will be released by JoSAA, on behalf of the participating institutes. JEE Main Qualifying cut off decides who will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. However, the purpose of JEE Main is not to just segregate candidates for JEE Advanced. It is also the most important exam for admission to various engineering colleges across India. Students must note that JEE Main qualifying cut off will not be as per any specific institute or branch. It is a common cut off. However, it will be different for different categories. On the other hand, admission cut off will be the minimum rank required to take admission to a particular stream or college.

    From the few past years JEE Main cut-offs, it can be inferred that there is a steady decrease in the qualifying cut-offs.
