How to Disable News and Interests in Windows 10’s Taskbar

MSN news can provide you with the latest news, finance, sports, technology, weather, etc. To disable the News and Interests widget in Windows 10, follow the instructions below.

Rather than opening the personalized items in the Edge browser, we can have them as widgets.

The DWORD value can be used to deactivate this widget. Make sure enough space is available on the taskbar.

In the news feed, you can create personal interests. In the finance card, you can see Top gainers. You do not need to disable the widget.

You can use this widget to get local weather and news. Using the start menu, you can access the control panel and administrative tools.

Using the registry, remove the News and Interests widget

With Microsoft Edge, users can customize their news feed with personalized items. Widgets appear in the taskbar when hovered over.

To disable a widget, use the DWORD value “EnableEdgeFeedWidget”. If there is not enough room on the taskbar, you can disable the widget by adding a DWORD value called “DisableEdgeFeedWidget”.

The registry can also be modified to disable this feature. Open regedit and navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell .

Turn Off the News and Interests Registry in Windows 10

  1. Press Windows key + R on your keyboard or click the bottom left corner of any screen to open the Start menu.
  2. Type “Taskbar” in the search box.
  3. Click on the Taskbar icon that appears to open the Taskbar settings.
  4. At the bottom of the page, click “Show All Tiles” to expand your taskbar options. On the taskbar and start menu page, click “Taskbar and Start Menu”.
  5. Choose an option from each section until you have disabled News and Interests from appearing on your taskbar.
  6. When you’re done, click “OK” to save the changes and close the Taskbar settings window.
  7. When done, repeat steps 1-5, but select “No News and Interests” widget this time.

You can also hide the widget using the context menu in the taskbar.

Disable News And Interests On The Taskbar Gpo

The company has been testing a new News and Interests widget in the Windows Insider development rings.

The button is located on the right side of the taskbar. It shows local weather forecasts, news headlines, finance, traffic, and other information when you launch it.

This widget isn’t just for developers. In future updates, it will be added to older versions of Windows like version 2004 May 2020 Update and version 20H2 October 2020 Update.

Here’s how to turn it off or change its behavior

Microsoft is testing a new feature called the News and Interests widget in Windows 10. On the right side of the taskbar is a widget that displays weather forecasts, news headlines, finance, traffic, and other information.

It will be coming to older versions of Windows, such as version 2004 May 2020 Update and version 20H2 October 2020 Update.

It is a new feature that will be available in Windows 10 soon. Microsoft is testing it, but there is no word on when it will roll out or if it will be part of Windows 10’s Fall Creators Update.

If you want to use this feature, you must be running one of the following Insider builds: 14342, 14360, 14971 or 15291.

If you’re in that build and you’ve updated your system with new features and changes.

Disable News and Interests in Group Policy

Changing the behavior of the News and Interests widget on the Windows 10 taskbar is similar to managing Search.

Right-click on the Weather icon on the taskbar and select News and Interests from the menu.

There, you can choose to show only the icon, turn it off, or enable it again. It can also be turned off so that it does not activate when you hover over it.

You can hide the icon completely by going to the start menu and clicking on “Taskbar and Start Menu” > Taskbar.

You can also disable it through group policy:

Disable news and interests (Turn off the news and interests widget) in Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components

Windows 10 Disables the News and Interests Registry

The feature will be disabled on all Windows 10 devices. Follow the same steps as above, but this time choose “Turn on news and interests” instead.

Microsoft is testing the feature with Insider builds, so if you have one of those, I recommend checking it out.

“News and interests” is a new widget in Windows 10 that appears in the taskbar, next to the notification area, starting with build 21286 for 21H2 or build 19043.962 for 21H1, providing quick access to trending news, sports, and weather information.

The idea behind this feature is to prevent you from constantly checking your phone for news and other information throughout the day.

It is a good idea, but it comes enabled by default, and it’s not something everyone wants since it adds unnecessary distractions.

If you do not wish to use this widget, Windows 10 includes options to disable or enable it in at least two ways using either the taskbar settings or registry.

Using this guide, you will learn how to disable or enable the news and interests widget available on Windows 10 build 21286 and higher. The steps are also explained in this video tutorial.

Windows 10 Remove Weather from Taskbar

Windows 10’s latest Patch Tuesday update brings a minor update to the desktop taskbar, as we reported in April. Powered by MSN and Microsoft News, the News and Interests feature puts curated news and local weather conditions on your taskbar.

It appears in Windows 10’s taskbar as an icon showing the current weather, but hover over it for news headlines, sports scores, and traffic updates. By clicking a link on a news story, you will be taken to the full story using Microsoft’s Edge browser.

It’s a useful feature if you want to have at-a-glance weather and news updates on your taskbar. You can get rid of News and Interests on your taskbar if you’d rather not have it there taking up space. Follow these steps to remove the News and Interests icon from your taskbar.
