5 Signs You Need to Replace Your Hotel Carpets Immediately

Carpets are one of the most expensive features you can invest in if you own a hotel. If you have a spacious facility, you need to buy dozens of square meters of this material to cover the areas you want.

Cleaning and maintaining all the carpets in a hotel also requires a substantial amount of investment every year.

With the massive investment you make and will continue putting into your elegant, comfy, and functional carpets, you may hesitate to replace them even when they reach the 15-year mark, the typical lifespan of this type of floor covering.

But even if you have your carpets for less than 15 years, you may have to replace your commercial flooring in your hotel if you notice these warning signs:

    1.They look old and worn.

Since you are in your hotel several days a week, you may be used to seeing them, so you might think there is nothing wrong with them. However, there are several clear signs of wear and tear that are too obvious to ignore.

    These signs include:

    • Threadbare patches
    • Fraying
    • Spots and damages caused by sunlight
    • Uneven or different shades on different parts of the carpet
    • Matting

The presence of holes, rips, and tears are more pressing signs that show you should change your carpets right away.

If your carpets show one or more of these signs of wear and tear, you will do well to replace them as soon as possible.

Keep in mind that old, worn, damaged, and shabby-looking carpets do nothing good for your hotel lobby, rooms, restaurant and caf?, and other high-traffic areas. These can turn off guests quickly and give them the wrong impression.

Your unsightly carpets can also affect the performance and productivity of your staff. If they are embarrassed by their workplace, they won?t be motivated and take pride in their work.

All these can have a negative effect on your business.

2.There are noticeable stains that can?t be removed.

With guests coming in and out of your hotel every day, there is no way your carpets will be safe from stains.

Guests can accidentally spill red wine, soda or coffee on the bedroom carpets. They can do the same in your restaurant and caf?.

Your staff, including your waitstaff, cooks, and receptionists, can also figure in accidents that can cause stains in carpeted areas.

Although there are many products and hacks that can be applied to remove carpet stains, if they are past the 10-year mark, getting rid of them completely may be impossible. Even if your floor covering has a stain-resistant finish, this treatment usually fades away over time.

As a result, your hotel carpets will have stains that are noticeable and new ones that are hard to remove.

Although you may hide some stains under furniture pieces or rugs successfully, if they are in the middle of the carpet or are too many, you may have no other option but to replace them.

Carpet stains are also a major eyesore and reflect pretty badly on your business. As such, invest in a floor covering upgrade when there are too many stains already.

3.There is a foul smell emanating from the carpets.

A lingering, fresh, and pleasant smell makes guests want to stay longer and return repeatedly to your hotel. This is one reason why you probably spend a lot on sprays, scent diffusers, fresh flowers, and other fragrances.

Your investments in these features, though, are useless if you have something in your hotel giving off a bad smell: the carpets.

If your carpets still have an unpleasant smell even after they are cleaned, it can mean that the residues from the spills and other accidents over the years have penetrated deeply into the carpet fibers or padding. They may even have reached the actual floor itself.

A foul smell coming from carpets can sometimes be a sign of mold or mildew as well, which can create more problems if you do nothing about them.

Carpets with mold and mildew can also become a health hazard in your hotel.

If you want your guests to remember your hotel for its pleasant smells and look back at their stay here fondly, you will do well to replace your old smelly carpets as soon as possible.

4.There is an increasing case of people developing or having worse allergic reactions.

Mold and mildew are two of the most common allergy triggers. These substances can also cause or aggravate asthma.

Mold, in particular, can cause serious health problems to people with asthma or breathing problems, skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, and weak immune systems.

Because of these reasons, if you don?t want your guests and employees to be sick in your hotel, upgrade your old, unhealthy carpets.

Additionally, old, worn carpets are magnets for dust, dust mites, dirt, and other allergens. If you notice a lot of people sneezing, having itchy, red, and watery eyes while they are in your hotel, avoid inconveniencing them longer by replacing your floor covering.

5.They look out of place in your hotel.

Whether you have a Victorian, modern, or boutique hotel, and regardless of the interior design and concept of your restaurant and coffee shop, all features should be cohesive and give out a unified look.

If your carpets look out of place since they were installed years ago, it will work to your advantage to change them, even if they are still in excellent condition.

Carpets can make your hotel look inviting, professional, and modern. If your existing floor covering gives out the wrong vibe and does not complement the interior, you need an update.

With carpets covering one of the largest and most noticeable surfaces of your hotel, don?t miss out on the opportunity to use them as branding tools. Aside from choosing a style that enhances or at least matches the interior, select a color or hues that work with your brand.

Choosing carpets with the same color as your logo is a good start for using your new floor covering as an additional branding feature in your hotel.

With carpets being one of the most vital features in hotels that complete and enhance the experience of your guests, be aware of the signs that show you need to replace them and have new ones installed by professionals to get the best results.
