15 Best Things to do in Argentina

Iguazu Falls

Argentina is one of the most beautiful countries on the globe. It has many highlights that are so diverse that coming is a dream come true. Argentina is a nation that appears to have it all: culture, food, wildlife, architecture, and stunning landscapes. But what are my best sights and activities in Argentina? Some are as simple as visiting a single street in a metropolis, while others entail exploring an entire national park. Regardless, these are all the things about Argentina.

Plan a trip to this beautiful city in Argentina with TAP AIR PORTUGAL and enjoy your days in Argentina.

1. Iguazu Falls

Nothing surpasses the beauty of this planet! Natural wonders have always piqued my interest! As a result, I couldn’t begin this list with anything less than the most incredible cascade I’ve ever seen… The Iguazu Falls! Iguazu Falls is actually divided between two countries, Brazil and Argentina, so if you have time, make sure to explore both sides. But, Argentina was my favorite side because you get so near to the power of the falls. It was a  captivating experience! Iguazu Falls is a spectacular location to visit in Argentina and should be at the top of your list if you visit the country.

2. Fuerza Bruta Show

Fuerza Bruta was the most unexpected act I did in Argentina. And by that I mean I didn’t expect much, but it blew me away. Fuerza Bruta is a well-known dance theater production that premiered in Buenos Aires in 2003. Cirque du Soleil meets more dance and surreal art. I had no idea what to expect before standing in line for an hour for a ticket in Buenos Aires. To be honest, Bailey’s pulling me along. But it turned out to be an incredible performance and an all-around fantastic night!

3. Laguna de Los Tres

When people ask me what my best hike in Argentina is, I always say it’s a tie between Laguna de Los Tres/Mount Fitz Roy and another trail. Both are beautiful for various reasons, but Laguna de Los Tres is my favorite because of the unique shape of Cerro Fitz Roy in the background behind the lake. But, the first 19 km (12 mi) of the trail are easy, and the only difficult part is the final 1 km (0.6 mi) climb that gains 500 meters (1,640 feet) in elevation.

4. Mendoza

Argentina makes incredible wines, and my favorite wine region in Argentina is, of course, Mendoza. It all begins with the water, as they say, and if you’ve tried a Malbec from the region, you’ll likely agree! All jokes aside though, Mendoza is a very renowned wine area and you’ll find bottles from here all over the world. I have a distant but fond recollection of trying Mendoza wine straight from the winery while savouring the warm weather in Mendoza. 5. Perito Moreno Glacier

I’ve been to many glaciers, but my personal favorite is… you got it… Perito Moreno Glacier. The Perito Moreno Glacier is in Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia and is a highlight of the region. This incredible chunk of ice is something you must see for yourself. For one thing, it’s one of the world’s only glaciers that continues to grow and reseed at a similar pace. This means that enormous chunks of ice are falling from its face into the lake below. It’s insane to see, and the din is deafening!

6. Buenos Aires

Of course, a list of my Argentine highlights would be incomplete without mentioning the country’s beating center, Buenos Aires. To be honest, Buenos Aires didn’t immediately appeal to me. It took some time for this massive metropolis to no longer intimidate me, but wow, what a place! In Buenos Aires, there are endless activities to keep you busy. A city tour is one of the simplest ways to get to know Buenos Aires; this guided 3-hour tour will cover many of the city’s renowned landmarks, beautiful streets, and historic sites.

7. Drink Craft Beer

Argentina has a penchant for handmade or “artisanal” items. And, of course, beer is high on that list, as are other fantastic goods such as ice cream and chocolate…But let’s get back to the drink. The alcohol, of course. Not only can you get fantastic IPAs, Porters, and Lagers, as well as a variety of fruit and berry beers, but they’re also dirt inexpensive. Argentina is one of the most exciting places to sample craft beer, and it’s available everywhere! So get out there and experience some Argentinian craft beer in the bars, streets, or breweries.

8. Salsa

If you visit Argentina, you must not leave without visiting a salsa club, attending a salsa performance, or enrolling in a salsa class! Salsa is a part of society in Argentina, but it can be intimidating to try it for the first time. Once you learn some fundamental moves, relax, and have fun, everything starts to fall into place. That’s not to imply you’ll be great, but the trick with salsa is to have fun! You can take salsa classes all over Argentina, but Buenos Aires is one of the best places in the world to learn salsa, so if you have an option, make it Buenos Aires!

9. Eat Steak

I’m confident any meat eaters reading this are already aware of Argentina’s fantastic steaks and lamb. This is a meal I enjoy every time I visit, especially when paired with a fine red wine or beer. Good steak can be all over the nation, but the quality varies. To get the best steak, go to a well-known restaurant, which we discovered in Buenos Aires and throughout Patagonia. If you visit Patagonia, make sure to sample the lamb al Asador! This amazing slow-roasted lamb is over a bed of hot coals. don’t hold your breath waiting for greens; they consume a hearty diet of meat and potatoes down there!

10. La Boca, Buenos Aires

Breaking down Buenos Aires even further leads me to my fave neighborhood… La Boca! This vibrant area is a must-see for anyone visiting the city for the first time. The buildings and, in some instances, the roads have been in a random but pleasing array of hues. The small streets are with artists, musicians, and eateries. La Boca transports you away from the bustling streets of Buenos Aires to a more hipster and artistic neighborhood. If you’re visiting La Boca for the first time, take a walking tour to get to know the community. This is what I did on my first visit, and it’s something!

11. Peninsula Valdes

The east coast of Patagonia is often overlooked as tourists flock to the breathtaking views of the Andes. The east coast, So, is a hidden treasure, and Peninsula Valdes is one of the most remote but also wildlife-rich locations you can visit. Many visitors come for the whale viewing season, which runs from July to September, but I came for the elephant seals, penguins, armadillos, and the chance to see an orca. Of course, I saw whales, and if you go early in the season, you can see whales from the beach in the neighboring town of Puerto Madryn.

12. Punta Tombo

The Punta Tombo penguins are another must-see east coast Patagonian draw. Yes, you can see penguins in other areas of Argentina, but Punta Tombo is home to South America’s largest colony of Magellanic penguins. You won’t see a million penguins all at once, but you will see a lot! You can stroll along the boardwalk in Punta Tombo and enjoy their friendly company. If they join you on the boardwalk; humans don’t seem to bother these inquisitive little creatures!

13. Tierra del Fuego

Tierra del Fuego is South America’s southernmost territory, and it is between Chile and Argentina. It’s the end of the world! The King penguin colony is the primary draw for me here (aside from the next location on this Argentina highlights list). The King penguin is the world’s second-largest penguin, trailing only the Emperor penguins of Antarctica. Other than on the sub-Antarctic island, Tierra Del Fuego Island is the only location to see them.

14. Ushuaia

Ushuaia is another place to explore on Tierra del Fuego, but this time it’s in Argentina (yay!). Ushuaia is the world’s southernmost metropolis! This remote location marks the commencement of the world’s longest mountain range, the Andes. To be honest, there are some fantastic excursions available in Ushuaia. Furthermore, the town itself is very touristic, and you can sample some great craft beers and enjoy delicious meals here!

15. Cerro Tronador, Bariloche

Last but not least is Cerro Tronador, one of the best activities to do in Argentina and my other favorite hike. This trail leads you away from the tourist traps of Bariloche and into a spectacular part of the Lakes District. The Hanging Glacier, which pierces over the edge of a cliff into many waterfalls, can be on the route to the hut. Once at the hut, you can enjoy a variety of excursions and even warm meals, but it is incredible.
